TAMUG Journal Club
The Marine Research Journal Club at Texas A&M University at Galveston presents an opportunity for graduate students and faculty members to discuss scientific literature in an informal setting. Started in 2010 through the research labs of Dr. Antonietta Quigg and Dr. Anja Schulze, students gather in the “Fishbowl” classroom (OCSB 200A) over breakfast to discuss journal articles that are marine focused. Each semester follows a specific theme, and every week a graduate or undergraduate student leads a discussion on a paper following the given theme. It is a great opportunity for our graduate students to talk about what is going on in the marine related fields among their peers and gain perspectives from other disciplines. In past semesters they have discussed topics such as the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems, homing mechanisms and behavior throughout the animal kingdom, and the role of stable isotope methodologies in current research.
