Otolith Chemistry of Pelagic Fishes
Alternative techniques other than tagging and genetic tracers are useful to assist in examining movement patterns and mixing rates of pelagic fishes. Stable isotopes and trace elements in otoliths of fishes are being used to examine movement patterns and nursery origin of several tuna species and swordfish in the Pacific Ocean.
