The first 15 working days of preregistration (dates listed below) the system is open Monday – Friday 24 hours a day (excluding holidays).

Students can view their assigned registration times under 'Registration Times' found on the “Registration Readiness” page in Howdy (available via the 'Registration Readiness' icon). Registration notices are posted approximately mid-to-late March for Summer/Fall registration cycles and mid-October for Spring registration cycles.

Students can check in Howdy (approximately mid-to-late March for Summer/Fall registration OR mid-October for Spring registration) to view their assigned registration times.
 
Prior to the start of pre-registration, prior to each new registration cycle, students should expect to do the following:

  • Check for holds by going to your "Registration Readiness" icon 

    • Contact the offices having placed the registration holds to determine what is needed in order to remove the holds PRIOR to your pre-registration date.

  • Complete the Location Update for the semester you expect to register (i.e. Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025, etc.)

  • Complete the Terms of Use acknowledgment for the semester you expect to register (i.e. Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025, etc.)

Registration Tutorial Videos and Guides are available in Howdy to assist students in preparing for registration.

Log into Howdy > visit the My Record Tab > go to the 'Student Tutorials & FAQs' portlet > Click on 'Registration Tutorials' > click on 'Preparing for Registration', 'Class Search & schedule Planning Help', and 'Registration' to view tutorial videos.

Continuing undergraduate students (enrolled Fall 2024) and undergraduate students readmitted for Spring 2025 will be provided registration assignments based priority group and classification.

Classification is based on earned hours at the time registration assignments are made. Students with a change in classification after assignments are made can contact records@tamug.edu to request an updated time assignment (must be before the start of the updated time). Students may not request updated time assignments due to missing their registration time, holds, etc. and will need to wait until open registration to register.

Undergraduates may register for up to 17 hours for the Spring semester during the April preregistration period. Beginning November 18, 2024 undergraduate max hours is raised to permit enrollment up to 19 hours for the spring. An undergraduate student with an overall grade point average of 3.00 or better may register for a course load in excess of 19 hours with the approval of their academic advisor. An undergraduate with an overall grade point average less than 3.00 must obtain approval of their dean before registering for a course load in excess of 19 hours. Approvals from advisors and deans should be sent to registration-admin@tamu.edu.

Students must be admitted for Spring in order to register for Spring courses. Contact Office of Admissions for information about Spring admissions.

All newly admitted students must attend their New Student Conference in order to register for classes. See New Student Conference for more information. 

Late Registration and Add/Drop Registration period information (posted above) applies for new undergraduate admits.

IMPORTANT

Students with zero registered hours during the first four (4) class days of summer terms or the first five (5) class days of fall/spring semester will be assessed a $100 late registration fee when they register.

Changes to an existing class schedule may result in additional tuition/fees; payment must be made by 5 p.m. in MAIN building, Suite 104 (Student Business Services) or by 5 p.m. online the day the changes are made to avoid a late fee or cancellation of class schedule. Registration schedule is subject to change.

Students are limited in the number of online registration transactions each semester in order to prevent excessive taxing of our system hardware by users running unsolicited programs to search for available course seats. The majority of students are able to register for classes within this limit.

Users are prohibited from using a "bot," a "script," or other third-party programs to register for classes. Doing so will likely result in exceeding the maximum number of allowed online registration transactions and the loss of registration privileges in Howdy for the term. Students exceeding their limit of online registration transactions will have to conduct any future registration activity for the semester with academic advising staff during open registration.
